Proposed new rules in the USA cancelled

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) new director David Kappos has cancelled all changes proposed to the patent prosecution practice where the aim was to reduce the number of continuation applications and claims.

Additionally a new “count system” of the examiners has been introduced to encourage the examiners to concentrate more on the examination and quality already in connection with the first office action, and to conduct interviews with the applicants instead of the earlier practice, which favoured forcing the applicants to file requests for continued examinations.
