Registration fee of Community Trademarks will be abolished
The Community Trademark Office (OHIM) has announced that starting on 1 May 2009, the registration fee of Community Trademarks will be abolished. The registration fee for an application with a maximum of three classes is now 850 euros.
There will be a slight increase in the official fee for filing a Community Trademark application, but removal of the registration fee will considerably decrease the total costs of registration. According to OHIM, the fees will fall by some 40%.
The abolishment of the registration fee will also apply for such already pending Community Trademark applications where a request for payment of the registration fee has not been issued by 1 May 2008. Therefore, by filing a CTM application before 1 May 2009, the applicant can also benefit of the expected slight increase in the application fee.
If you are considering of protecting your trademark as a Community Trademark, it is now a wise moment to act.
